Baby tears, ebola and pure tragedy

It’s an interesting debate raging across the internet as to if Bob Geldof was right to attempt to recreate the Band Aid success of 1984 in 2014. Was he right to do this or would it have been better to ‘not do’ it at all? Or should he have done it this way instead of that?

Surely it is better to do something against ebola than not at all, to have the discussion and further raise awareness of this awful disease? A nurse died from ebola because she wiped a tear away from a dying babies face!

Do we want to see the confronting image of a dying woman being taken from her house at the start of their video, NO but this is the negative impact of ebola:

For all those people out there that think it it was wrong to recreate Band Aid ……. what’s your positive impact on the world?

You don’t even have to buy the music ….. you can donate directly by visiting here – http://www.bandaid30.com

Would you donate your bone marrow? McKesson added 988 new potential donors in 2013

Each year, more than 10,000 people with blood cancers and other life-threatening diseases need a bone marrow transplant and search the Be The Match Registry® for their donor. Only about half of these 10,000 patients will receive a transplant. To recruit additional donors, McKesson partnered with the National Marrow Donor Program’s Be The Match Registry®

IMPACT:

During 2013 led by Executive Champion Ann Berkey, Senior Vice President, Corporate Public Affairs, who serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Marrow Donor Program, McKesson succeeded in adding 988 new potential marrow donors to the Be The Match Registry®

A powerful statement …. We want to leave the world better than we found it

This is a statement made by one of the most famous companies in the modern era, APPLE.

For more than 20 years, Apple has been working on ways to minimize the impact their company and products have on the environment.

IMPACT:

Projects during 2013:

  • Apple powers all its data centers, including a new facility in Reno, Nevada, with 100 percent renewable energy and reaches 94 percent renewable energy usage across its corporate campuses and data centers.
  • Apple begins construction of its new Cupertino campus, which will be a model of energy efficiency and green building design.
  • Apple launches the Clean Water Program pilot to increase water reuse and recycling at 13 water‑intensive supplier sites
  • Apple introduces the new Mac Pro, which uses 74 percent less aluminum and steel than its predecessor.
  • Apple launches the Supplier Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Academy to expand the pool of qualified EHS managers in our supply chain.
  • Apple completes its rollout of PVC‑free cables in China across all products.

We can all have a #greatimpact on the environment

At Visy, they love to recycle.

Recycling isn’t a new thing for Visy either. They have actually been at the forefront of the recycling industry for many years – and today they process recyclables from more than 3.2 million households annually.

Visy believes the key to recycling is to see the bigger picture. It’s not just about what they do with their waste, it’s about how they create products to begin with and use recycled materials as the starting point for many products.

Ultimately, it’s the goal at Visy to find ways of recycling more and more materials until we live in a world where waste is a thing of the past. In fact they are asking all of us to take a pledge to so as well.

Every part of the process counts. The waste materials Visy collect, what they transform them into and how it’s done. Visy aims to be environmentally responsible every step of the way, by teaming up with governments, customers and other industry groups to make sure this happens. Together, Visy works to save resources, energy and water, and reduce litter and landfill.

Visy runs an educational program for school aged children, more details on how to access this can be found HERE

IMPACT: In FY2012-13 alone, Visy recovered more than 1.5 million tonnes of paper and cardboard, 343,000 tonnes of glass, 65,000 tonnes of plastics and 28,000 tonnes of metals (including aluminium and steel cans) to be recycled.

What ever happened to the Jetsons? Smart minds.

What does the future of the car industry look like. The Jetsons vision has never quite come to fruition in terms of flying cars. Although driverless cars are now a reality (in testing anyway) as well as numerous options coming onto the market in terms of less carbon emissions and therefore less impact on the environment.

There has been much pressure on companies over the years to improve their offering not only in terms of price and performance but impact on the environment. At Volkswagen they attract and nurture some of the best young minds in the business. In fact they have over 490 young scientists studying for a PhD in the Volkswagen Group. In anyones terms that a lot of smart minds coming together for one company famous for innovation and design. Who can ever forget the classic Volkswagen Beetle. No doubt they are up to the challenge in reducing some of the major pollution issues in China through the new vehicles they will create in the future.

IMPACT: Professor Dr. Jürgen Leohold, Executive Director of Volkswagen Group Research and Director of the AutoUni in Wolfsburg, underscored: “These PhD students are striding towards the future with their research. That helps us in many ways, such as being able to identify today what our customers will be expecting tomorrow and beyond, and to develop solutions early. Their work unveils new and sometimes unconventional approaches and reveals new perspectives. Practitioners, experts and young researchers work hand-in-hand at Volkswagen. That is teamwork which brings benefits for everyone.”

Wild about Scotland – Corporate Social Responsibility

Impact Marketing is about individuals and businesses showcasing / promoting to their community of consumers the positive impact they are working on within the community in which they operate (local or global) or within their business operations.

Clydesdale Bank in Scotland has a large economic impact through the UK with over 9,000 employees, more than 300 branches, and a network of over 70 Financial Solutions Centres, servicing 2.6 million customers.

One exciting project that attracted the attention of Impact Embassy is Wild about Scotland a Clydesdale Bank partnership with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), delivering an outreach education programme on Scotland’s natural habitat, via a bespoke double-decker bus.

The bus launched on August 29th, 2014 in Whiteinch, Glasgow. A dedicated team of four from RZSS delivers lessons, aimed at primary school aged children, across the communities of Scotland.

The programme focuses on Scotland’s native species, habitats and environment. It includes practical, fun lessons that support the National Curriculum for Excellence (CfE). The lessons connect children to Scotland’s native species and the important part they play in the wider biodiversity across Scotland. Lessons cover beavers, mini-beasts and the Scottish Wildcat (Highland Tiger).

Helen Page, Customer Experience and Marketing Director at Clydesdale Bank, said: “RZSS makes a vital contribution to the conservation of Scotland’s wildlife through both direct preservation and through their commitment to educating the public on endangered species, habitats and ecosystems.

Chris West, CEO of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, said: “We are delighted to announce this significant partnership with Clydesdale Bank. Conservation through education is one of the founding principles behind the Society and remains one of our key goals to this day. – See more at: http://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/news/2014/08/clydesdale-bank-announces-parntership-with-rzss/#sthash.UXKlSP4s.dpuf

The Wild about Scotland team will contact schools directly to arrange lessons and also respond to enquiries via a registration process. To view the Tour Schedule please visit rzss.org.uk/wildaboutscotland or #wildaboutscotland.

IMPACT: The lessons through this partnership help engage a younger generation to Scotland’s wildlife not just in forests or “wild areas” of Scotland but in various habitats, including their own back gardens, and explain how all species are interconnected in some way, and reliant on each other for their existence.
